Members will be aware of the DWT plan to release up to 30 pairs of beavers in the Hooke and Upper Frome catchment in the near future and have submitted an expression of interest to Natural England. They have launched a consultation process to engage with the general public and interested parties and stakeholders. This process will run for 15 weeks, closing on 31st May.
As you might imagine, the FPWDFA are very alarmed at this prospect, especially as we are, this week, launching our smolt to salmon project at Hooke Springs. This project will lead to us seeding the headwaters with fertile salmon eggs in 2 years in both these river catchments, as well as the Cerne and Sydling waters.
Everyone is encouraged to attend one of the consultations as detailed below:
Saturday 11th April 9am-3 pm Maiden Newton Village Hall (past)
Saturday 18th April 9am-4 pm Dorchester Town Hall at the Corn Exchange
Saturday 2nd May 9am – 4pm Wareham Corn Exchange
